Well done to Alex Litvinenko on the publication of your paper

last modified Apr 08, 2014 11:22 AM

We would like to congratulate Alex on the publication of his paper 'Triacylglyceride Production and Autophagous Responses in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii Depend on Resource Allocation and Carbon Sourc', further details can be found here -

The paper investigates the effect that different carbon sources have on the lipid metabolism and production of neutral lipids in a model green alga, which is important for optimising the productivity of microalgae and improving their viability as an alternative source of biofuels.

Alex is a second year BBSRC DTP student carrying out his PhD in Prof Alison Smith's group at the Department of Plant Sciences. He is studying the modes of action of enzymes thought to be responsible for synthesising neutral lipids in microalgae, as well as exploring what roles these enzymes play in and how they contribute to variation in microalgal lipid metabolism, understanding which is vital for expanding the potential of using microalgae as a bioenergy source for the future.
