Cambridge Biosciences DTP PhD Programme

PIPS Symposium 2022

Every year, the DTP programme hold a Symposium to discuss PIPS with students and host organisations. After the success of last year virtual event, finally we came back with a face-to-face event, which took place on Friday, 1 April 2022 at the Babraham Campus.

The event was attended by organisations from different sectors such as StartCodon, Page Medical Communications Ltd, Cambridge Enterprise, Charles River, The Company of Biologists, Alzheimer's Research UK, to name a few. The variety of options for PIPS presented, gave the students more ideas on what they can do and achieve during their internship, different things they had not thought of.

Inspiring talks from students and hosts of previous internships, provided students with a better insight of PIPS, “the student talks gave me a much better understanding of how to approach choosing my PIPS and what I might get out of it” (DTP student).

Students had time for networking and engaging with the host representatives. All organisations attending were offered a space to allow one-to-one or a-few-to-one meetings of students seeking internships with potential hosts. It was a chance to socialise with other PhD students from different cohorts and alumni, particularly after two years of restrictions due to the global pandemic.

Following the event, the majority of the host organisations got in touch with the DTP Office to offer multiple PIPS opportunities and many students have now arranged their PIPS!
