On Thursday, 2 October 2025, the Cambridge Biosciences Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) warmly welcomed its newest cohort at an induction event held in the Sainsbury Laboratory Auditorium. The day brought together incoming students, key members of the DTP team, and current students from previous cohorts to celebrate the start of an exciting academic journey.
This year’s cohort comprises 27 BBSRC-funded students, awarded across Standard, Targeted, and iCASE studentships. In addition, six integrated students, not funded by the BBSRC, will fully participate in all aspects of the DTP training programme — including cohort-building activities and the Professional Internships for PhD Students (PIPS) scheme.
A Day of Networking and Discovery
The second half of the induction was open to all postgraduate students within the School of Biological Sciences. Attendees heard from the Research Development team and the University Library, and explored information stalls from Cambridge Enterprise and Jove.
After lunch, DTP students enjoyed a guided tour of the Cambridge University Botanic Garden, led by Dr Raphaella Hull, a DTP alumna from the 2019 cohort. The day concluded with a lively treasure hunt, offering new students the chance to connect, collaborate, and start building their cohort identity.
We wish all our new students the very best as they embark on their PhD journeys!
