Having grown up in London, I moved to Exeter to study Biochemistry in 2016, graduating in 2019. Following that I worked for Springer Nature in a couple of publishing roles for a little less than two years. While there, I had the opportunity to work on some excellent biochemistry and cell biology journals, which allowed me to see my field from a different perspective.
Project Title:
The molecular basis of polymicrobial biofilm formation
Project Summary:
Biofilms are complex three-dimensional matrices built and inhabited by microorganisms. They are found ubiquitously in most environments where microbes live but become problematic when colonising surfaces relevant to human health, as cells living in biofilms are more resilient to external stresses, more tolerant of antibiotic treatment and more virulent in human hosts.
