PIPS Symposium 2024

Our annual PIPS Symposium took place on Friday 19th April at the Babraham Innovation Campus. The event aims to connect current students, who haven’t yet carried out their PIPS, with potential host organisations. It was attended by host representatives from different sectors, such as Rosetrees Trust, STEMCELL Technologies, Alzheimer's Research UK, ELIXIR, Enhanc3d Genomics Ltd and Costello Medical to name just a few.

As is tradition, the event kicked off with presentations from both former internship students and hosts, providing valuable insights into the diverse strategies employed by past students to secure their PIPS placements. Those who completed their PIPS spoke up about how it helped them grow and boost their future employment prospects. A recent evaluation report commissioned by BBSRC backs this up, confirming the widespread popularity of PIPS among students and hosts, as well as the skills acquisition and improved employability prospects of students in various sectors. Read the full evaluation report.

This year, we introduced an exciting new dynamic speed networking session, offering student and company participants a unique chance to connect. Feedback from host organisations confirmed that this innovative format was highly effective in facilitating engagement with students.
The PIPS Symposium is an inclusive cross-cohort event, providing a platform for socialising and sharing experiences. These experiences vary based on each year's cohort and their respective research stages.

Following the event, several Host Organisations promoted their PIPS opportunities through the DTP office, offering students a chance to discover their ideal PIPS placement!
A big thank you to all the host organisations attending the event for their ongoing support with our programme:
