BBSRC DTP student, Yeorgia Argirou, has won the annual Monogram Early Career Excellence Award (MECEA), awarded to young scientists researching small grain cereals and grasses. The award considers contributions to research, as well as scientific outreach and promotion activities. As part of the prize, Yeorgia had the opportunity to present her research at the Monogram 2021 conference.

Yeorgia’s research looks at the effects on yield and yield traits in hybrid wheat made from genetically diverse wheat lines containing genes from ancestral species (https://www.niab.com/uploads/files/Resynthesised_wheat_flyer_-_June_2014.pdfhttp://www.monogram.ac.uk/docs/MN2016/Leigh_Diversity.pdf) compared to less diverse commercial elite varieties.
